Welcome to Dunston Hill Community Primary School

On behalf of the children, staff and governors, I would like to welcome you to Dunston Hill Community Primary School. We hope you find our website clear, informative and easy to navigate. It is designed to give you a flavour of the vibrant life of our school, the work of our children and the quality of education we strive to deliver.

As Headteacher, I am very proud of our school and its many achievements. We have a modern, well-designed and secure building set in spacious, attractive grounds. The extensive range of internal and external facilities and resources ensure that the quality of teaching and learning has a significant impact on pupils’ outcomes. Year on year the school has achieved high standards of attainment in literacy and numeracy and children leave at the end of Year 6 consistently above the national expectation for reading, writing and mathematics.

While it is our priority that the children achieve their academic potential and progress confidently onto the next phase of their education, it is also our aim to ensure that their personal and social development thrive as well. We recognise children as unique individuals with specific talents and needs. The staff work tirelessly to provide a varied and engaging curriculum and a positive school experience. The classrooms are hives of activity and full of creativity and learning, making our school a special place indeed for children. We have many experts visit us including artists, authors, chefs, historians and sports instructors. We also visit many venues including castles, farms, outdoor adventure centres and cultural trips to London.

There are a wide range of extracurricular clubs on offer to enhance the curriculum and community links are well embedded in the life of the school. The school gets involved in local projects and sporting events. We engage in family learning where parents and children can work alongside each other. Visitors always comment positively on our stimulating environment and inclusive ‘care and respect for all’ ethos.

For new parents and carers joining our school community for the first time, we invite you to join us in a partnership that will make your child’s time here enjoyable and worthwhile.

Visits are encouraged and welcomed: the children, staff and I would be delighted to show you around our wonderful school.
